Engines Off at Schools

Children are more susceptible to developing asthma and other respiratory illnesses from air pollution exposure. Unfortunately, many caregivers idle their vehicles while they wait to pick up and drop off their kids at school, exposing children to harmful tailpipe emissions. That’s why the RAQC is partnering with schools in the Front Range to educate parents, students, and school staff about the health impacts of idling near children.

In Spring 2024, the Engines Off at School program launched at two DPS elementary schools. Between the beginning and end of the program, there was a 45% and 50% drop in the average amount of time spent idling every day! That translates to real emission reductions and a public health and climate benefit for students and the whole school community.

Get involved

Engines Off at School is looking for more schools to participate in its outreach and education campaign. All public elementary schools in Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, and Jefferson counties are eligible. Reach out via our contact form to get involved.
